Yes it is!

There are only a few items you need to have in order to convert tapes to CD. Some of the items you may already have!

You will need the following:

  • Cassette Player
  • Line In Stereo Audio Cable
  • Burnable CD's or DVD's
  • Computer
  • Computer Speakers
  • Convert Tape to CD Software
We will take a quick look at each item needed and discuss what they are and where to find them. Let's start at the top of the list and work our way down.

Cassette Player
You are able to use either a full size cassette deck player with a built in amplifier or a protable cassette tape player (walkman style). The decision is yours, either one will work well for this task. Since you own audio books on tape, we assume you already have a working cassette player. But in case you need a cassette player, the best place to find them is Ebay online auctions.
Take a look at the current auctions for Cassette Players on Ebay.

Line In Stereo Audio Cable
The line in stereo audio cable is a simple stereo jack plug in style cable. Both ends are universal in size, 1/8" (3.5mm) and allows you to be able to hook up the cassette player directly to the Line In found on the back of your computer tower. Some of the newer style computers also have this connection available on the front of the tower for easy hook up. This cable can be found at your local electronic store such as Best Buy, Ciruit City or Radio Shack.

Burnable CD's or DVD's
What you need to remember is that a regular CD holds less regular audio time as compared to burning in MP3 format. Also, a DVD will hold the most audio out of the three, but it depends what type of disc burner you have on your computer.

These burnable CD's or DVD's can be found at your local electronics store such as Best Buy, Circuit City or Radio Shack.

Computer
Your computer needs to have a sound card, most if not all computers today have a sound card installed. Just look on the back of the computer for the "Line In" or "In" audio jack.

It will also need either a CD burner or a DVD burner in order to burn your audiobook tapes onto the CD or DVD format.

Since you found our site online, we are assuming you already have a computer, and it probably has all the items listed above. But in case you do not have one or want to upgrade your current computer, we highly recommend Dell Computers. We have purchased a laptop and a desk top computer through Dell Computers online. Since experiencing their excellent customer service and high quality computers first hand, we will always purchase our future computers through Dell Computers.

Computer Speakers
Again, if you own a computer, it probably has speakers as well. You will need a way to listen to the audio output while you convert tapes to CD or the format of choice. No, you do not have to go out and by the 5.1 dolby surround sound computer system speakers, a couple regular desktop speakers will do just fine. But...the surround sound speakers do sound great!
You can find computer speakers at Best Buy, Circuit City or Radio Shack.

Convert Tapes to CD Software
If we want to take our audio books on tape and convert them to another format, wouldn't we want our end product to be a high quality? Of course! We will be enjoying the audio book stories for many years to come. When we were doing our research, the convert tapes to CD software companies had to fulfil our selected criteria.

The company had to:

  • Have a Superior Product
  • Offer Great Customer Service
  • Have Product Support
  • Have a Full Line of Products
Lets face it, if you are buying a product you want the company to stand behind what they sell. You want the company to not just offer the one product, you will have many needs in the future if not now. The same product should have the capability to take care of all your audio, photo and digital needs right on your computer.
